The Falcons kept linebacker Tim Dobbins on their initial 53-man roster, but they opted to go in a different direction on Sunday.
The team announce that they have claimed linebacker Nate Stupar off of waivers from the Jaguars and released Dobbins to make room on the roster. Stupar has been well traveled since entering the league as a 2012 seventh-round pick in Oakland as he’s had stints with the Eagles and 49ers in between his time with the Raiders and Jags. He saw action in 12 games for the Niners and Jaguars last season.
Dobbins was signed as a free agent this offseason as the Falcons sifted through options in the wake of Sean Weatherspoon’s injury.
The Falcons also announced the first eight members of their practice squad. All were in camp with the Falcons, including fifth-round cornerback Ricardo Allen. The other seven players returning to the fold are safety Sean Baker, guard Harland Gunn, tackle Terren Jones, wide receiver Bernard Reedy, defensive tackle Travian Robertson, linebacker Jacques Smith, and running back Jerome Smith. The team has two spots left to fill.
