A former Patriots second-round pick is among 10 players signed to the Raiders’ initial practice squad.

Cornerback Ras-I Dowling, whom New England took with the first pick of Round Two in 2011, is the most experienced of the 10 signees announced by Oakland on Monday.

Dowling (6-1, 210) appeared in nine games for New England from 2011 through 2012. He was most recently with the Jets, who released him on August 24.

Seven of the Raiders’ practice squad members are rookies: tailback George Atkinson III, defensive end Denico Autry, linebacker Bojay Filimoeatu, linebacker Spencer Hadley, offensive tackle Dan Kistler, wide receiver Seth Roberts and tight end Scott Simonson.

Second-year offensive guard Lamar Mady and first-year defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin round out Oakland’s practice squad.

From the Patriots’ first pick in the second round of the draft to the practice squad in Oakland – that’s quite a comedown. Mind you, with his injury history, he’s quite lucky to still have a job.

How is this guy still practice squad eligible? By my count he is starting his 4th NFL season, and he already was on tge Patriots 53. I thought those conditions both would have disqualified him. Or does it go up to the time they are vested?

Yeah, but where does ras-I gol end up in all of this?

the Raiders have always been about 2nd chances, and he has one here.

George Atkinson III looked good in preseason. He should be playing by week 3 when DMC comes up lame.

Ahhh…Ras-I Dowling. Another one of Belichik’s ‘genius’ draft picks, right?

If the transition were reversed, if Dowling were the top pick by the Raiders in the 2nd round just three years ago and was going to the Pats, we’d have to hear all about the Raiders blowing the pick.

Another DB bust by the “genius” Bill Belichick.

Eh who cares. Just start Carr.

I only remember him starting two games throughout his NFL “career”…and those were the first two games in his rookie year. It IS truly amazing that he’s on any roster. He’s allergic to the field.

As for BB, well…he has thrown a lot of “stuff” at the wall over the last ten or more years hoping that something would stick. None of it did. Gotta pay for DB talent and it looks like he just realized this past offseason with Revis.

How does this guy keep getting on teams? There must be something special about his abilities that’s kept him employed – and continues to see him employed – all these years and through all these injuries.

We had high hopes for him in New England. Glad he found a place to land somewhere.

Glad to see Mady, and Atkinson are still with team…Both have a lot of upside.

Could be dumbest Belichick draft choice since Tommy Vardell in Cleveland.

dude.. Raiders sign him for only 1 simple reason, to get the idea of jets playbook for their upcoming game, then they will release him in some point of season when he isn’t effective player as he usually are.

Any corner with any chance to contribute is probably worth a slot on a practice squad. It’s nice to see Kistler on the list. He’s a project, but he’s nasty.
