Former Cardinals QB Max Hall arrested for shoplifting, cocaine

For a moment there, it looked like Max Hall was going to be the next Kurt Warner.

But he ended up more like Montana — Tony Montana.

According to the Arizona Republic, Hall was arrested Friday on suspicion of possession of stolen items and cocaine.

The report said Gilbert police were called to a Best Buy store, where they found Hall with “several stolen items from Best Buy and a nearby Walmart.”

He was also packing a “personal use quantity of cocaine,” which I guess depends on how often you use.

The former BYU quarterback — this latest one was a whole different kind of mission — started three games for the Cardinals in 2010, and was most recently working as an assistant coach at a high school

Shoplifting cocaine. What a loser. Get in the lineup and pay for your cocaine at the till like everyone else.

  4. purpleguy says: Sep 2, 2014 8:09 PM

Wait a second here — BYU? I didn’t think cocaine had made it to Utah yet.

  5. bigearl61 says: Sep 2, 2014 8:11 PM

The way is read, was like he was shoplifting cocaine!!! About to say what store sold it?

  6. thegreatgabbert says: Sep 2, 2014 8:12 PM

“Best Buy” is short for Best Buy The Stuff On Our Shelves, Or We’ll Bust Your Ass.

  7. bucsorbust says: Sep 2, 2014 8:13 PM

Packin’ the booger sugar is just bad news. I know the prices at Best Buy aren’t that cheap, but c’mon, you don’t have to get wired to be there.

Somehow i think he may have just violated the BYU code of ethics

  11. bloope says: Sep 2, 2014 8:18 PM

He could still end up like Kurt Cobain… I hear Food Lion is a very forgiving and accepting company.

  12. realfootballfan says: Sep 2, 2014 8:18 PM

Wow. I would have attached this to former alot of former NFL soembodies except for Max Hall, the golden boy around here when I first got to Phoenix. It’s almost as shocking as the “Welker getting caught living that Molly life” news earlier in the day, lol.

at least he wasn’t busted for using caffeine…

  14. colv says: Sep 2, 2014 8:21 PM

Kid fell far, see folks all kinds of people no matter who they are and where they are from can fall from grace. I guess his degree from BYU was to be an asst coach for High Schools. Another worthless college scholarship

Kurt Warner* I have no words for that mistype

  27. raiderapologist says: Sep 2, 2014 8:45 PM

“Personal use quantity” depends on how it’s packaged. If it’s a small amount packed in multiple packages, it’s a felony. At least that’s what my public defender told me.

  28. xsm941f says: Sep 2, 2014 8:57 PM

As long as it wasn’t COCA-COLA or coffee he’s in good standing at BYU

What does “packing” personal use powder cocaine even mean? Something tells me he was packing a crack rock and the cops were being nice by calling it cocaine.

Max Hall beat the defending champs, the New Orleans Saints, in 2010
It was a pretty shameful moment for whodats everywhere.
But every dog has his day, and on that day Hall was a golden boy.

  49. dirtdawg54 says: Sep 3, 2014 12:55 AM

Do you blame him? The kid was relegated to QBing the Blue Bombers in the CFL. Having to live in Winnipeg would drive anybody to do coke. I know. I lived there.

  54. soldyou says: Sep 3, 2014 2:54 AM

Must have missed the “moment” he was looking like kurt warner. must have been that single td pass.

  60. deadeye says: Sep 3, 2014 6:15 PM

The Max Hall era looked so promising. Numerous people picked him up in their fantasy leagues thinking he was the next big thing. Turns out, he was just the next big dummy.

  61. redbirdsrising says: Sep 4, 2014 3:47 AM

    Max Hall vs Saints?
Cardinals scored two defensive TDs and one offensive TD scored by an offensive lineman on a Max Hall fumble. A sub 60 QB rating. He was awful in that game, and all his other games. The Cardinals defense deserved credit for that win.

  62. crawfish2011 says: Sep 4, 2014 6:57 PM

I remember this crackhead QB, he beat the saints in 2010
