Jamon Meredith wasn’t part of the solution to Tampa’s offensive line issues this summer, but the Colts hope that he can help them weather their own storms in front of Andrew Luck.

The Colts announced that they have signed Meredith to their 53-man roster a few days ahead of the start of the 2014 season. Meredith takes the roster spot of tackle Xavier Nixon, who was placed on injured reserve with the designation to return as a result of a knee procedure he had this summer.

Meredith is listed as a tackle in the team’s announcement, although he also has some experience at guard after trying to win the starting job on the right side with Tampa this summer. That experiment went so well that Meredith was cut, but the Colts have lost guard Donald Thomas for the year and have injury concerns about center Khaled Holmes and versatile backup Joe Reitz so they’ll hope things play out better should they ever have to turn to Meredith.

The Colts also signed 2013 Bengals seventh-round tackle Reid Fragel to the practice squad.
