Geoff Schwartz was hoping he’d be back before the eight-week window for players on injured reserve/designated for return.

But the Giants obviously didn’t feel like they could wait, announcing they were putting Schwartz on that list and signing veteran guard Adam Snyder.

Schwartz won’t need surgery on his dislocated big toe, but was still facing enough time rehabbing that the Giants pulled the trigger on the roster move.

While rookie Weston Richburg has worked with the ones at left guard since Schwartz’s injury, Snyder gives them some experienced depth. With 87 NFL starts, he’s at least a proven commodity.

And with the uncertain status of the Giants’ offense as a whole, they need all those they can find.
