Shaun Hill can’t get Rams on the board in first half

The Rams are still looking for their first points of the Shaun Hill era.

St. Louis couldn’t find their way onto the scoreboard during the first half of their season opener against the Vikings and a late Hill interception set the Vikes up for the only touchdown of the game. Josh Robinson nabbed a pass intended for Jared Cook and Matt Cassel hit Greg Jennings for a touchdown with 21 seconds left in the second quarter to lift Minnesota to a 13-0 lead.

Cassel had a good half, going 10-of-15 for 105 yards overall and moving the team a couple of other times against a Rams defense that hasn’t offered Adrian Peterson much running room. Cordarrelle Patterson has had a bit more luck, breaking off two runs for 35 yards to help set up the Minnesota field goals in the first quarter.

The Robinson interception was the costliest error, but the dam was only going to hold for so long with the Rams offense looking bland and unproductive for most of the half. Hill has had some success throwing the ball to Brian Quick, although Quick negated some of that by being flagged for a facemask on one of his catches. They need to find some way to open up the Vikings defense or there will likely be further leaks from an otherwise game Rams defense.
