Giants may not want to leave Megatron all alone downfield

Note to the Giants’ defense: Leaving Calvin Johnson all alone downfield is probably not a great idea.

Most of us already knew that, but the Giants’ defense had to find it out the hard way on their first drive of the regular season tonight in Detroit. Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and safety Stevie Brown collided when they tried to adjust as it looked like Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was going to run, and as soon as Stafford saw that mistake, he capitalized by throwing it to Johnson, who waltzed into the end zone.

Stafford did a nice job of eluding the pressure from the Giants’ front on the play, and it was a good first drive for the Lions’ revamped offense.

The Giants’ own revamped offense didn’t look quite as hot on its first series, going three-and-out to start the game.
