Julius Thomas knows just how to start a contract drive.

The Broncos tight end christened his free agent season with a three-touchdown performance against the Colts, and was named AFC offensive player of the week.

Thomas had seven catches for 104 yards, a 14.9 per catch clip that had the Broncos rolling in the early going. All three of his scores came in the first half.

He’s going to continue to have chances to produce that way, as the Broncos lined him up all over the field. With Wes Welker suspended, Thomas can split wide like a receiver.

Come to think of it, maybe we should start counting now how many times he’s within four yards of a tackle.
