Mike Tomlin tells Jacoby Jones he’s “safe” this year

It seems almost quaint that a year ago, controversy around a Ravens game centered around Steelers coach Mike Tomlin accidentally/or maybe not stepping onto the field during a kickoff return.

But Tomlin joked this week that Jacoby Jones has nothing to worry about.

“No, I won’t be [on the field],” Tomlin said, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. “Tell Jacoby he’s safe.”

Jones had to change course last year to keep from crashing into Tomlin as he wandered innocently/lined up his approach on the Jumbotron, and Jones was eventually caught from behind.

This time, Jones is doing a little scouting beforehand.

“I’m actually going up to holler at him right before the game and go, ‘Hey, what you got for me this time,” Jones said of Tomlin. “See where his mind’s at. I laugh at it. It’s all fun to me. It is what it is. He was just trying to win. I would do the same.”

It’s good that they can laugh about it now, but it wasn’t a laughing matter when the league fined Tomlin $100,000 for interfering with the play.
