The Chargers will have to beat the defending Super Bowl champs without cornerback Brandon Flowers.

Flowers has been declared inactive by San Diego after injuring his groin last week. That will bump rookie first-round pick Jason Verrett up to a bigger role on the Chargers defense. The rookie played well in the opener against the Cardinals and may make a claim on a permanent increase in playing time with a few more good outings.

The Chargers will also be without linebacker Jarret Johnson, whose wife went into labor on Sunday. That will make stopping Marshawn Lynch a bit tougher for the Chargers.

Safety Jahleel Addae, running back Branden Oliver, cornerback Chris Davis, defensive lineman Ricardo Mathews and guard Doug Legursky are also out for San Diego.

Running back Christine Michel, wide receiver Kevin Norwood, cornerback Tharold Simon, tight end Cooper Helfet, linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis, defensive end Greg Scruggs and tackle Andrew McDonald are inactive for the Seahawks.
