A thigh injury will sideline Panthers tailback DeAngelo Williams on Sunday.

The Panthers have made Williams one of their inactives for today’s game against Detroit, the team said on Twitter.

Jonathan Stewart will get the call in place of Williams, the club said. Mike Tolbert and Fozzy Whittaker are other options in the backfield.

The 31-year-old Williams missed practice on Thursday and Friday with the injury, and he was listed as questionable for today’s game.

The absence of Williams is likely to be overshadowed by the Panthers’ decision to bench defensive end Greg Hardy, who is facing domestic violence charges.

The Panthers’ other inactives are as follows: safety Tre Boston, offensive lineman Andrew Norwell, quarterback Joe Webb, guard Garry Williams, linebacker Jason Williams.
