Tavon Austin set for Monday knee MRI

Austin

Lost in the parade of injured star players on Sunday was a potentially significant injury to a potential future star, who has struggled so far to reach his star potential.

Rams receiver Tavon Austin, the eighth overall pick in the 2013 draft, suffered a knee injury on Sunday. After the 19-17 win, coach Jeff Fisher told reporters he didn’t know the extent of the injury.

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Austin will have an MRI on Monday. Thomas also reports that Austin, who exited the game with no catches and two rushing attempts for 21 yards, wanted to play after the lightning delay in Tampa, but that his knee stiffened up.

Austin, a starting receiver who has no starts this year because the Rams open with multiple tight ends, showed flashed of high-end ability as a rookie. So far this year, Austin hasn’t done much. Whether he’ll do much more in the immediate future remains to be seen.
