Frank Gore: I was frustrated by loss, not by role

49ers running back Frank Gore didn’t have much to say after the team’s 23-14 loss to the Cardinals last Sunday, leading to some speculation that he was upset about getting just six carries.

Only one of those carries came in the second half, which is a far cry from past days when the Niners would protect a lead by feeding Gore the ball. Coincidentally or not, the 49ers blew a second half lead for the second straight week. On Wednesday, Gore said upset him so much that he couldn’t talk to reporters was that loss and not his role.

“For me, I feel whatever works, I’m with it,” Gore said, via CSNBayArea.com. “If it’s passing, it’s passing. If it’s running, then we’re running. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win. If we got to go out there and do the spread again, I’m with it. That’s what type of player I am. I just want to win. I was frustrated. If we’d gotten the win, I’m happy. I’m happy.”

Gore had 31 touches the first two weeks and there are a couple of reasons to think that his workload in the future will be more in line with those games. One is the expected return of tight end Vernon Davis to the lineup, which should mean fewer multiple wide receiver sets than they used last week, and the other is the expected return of right tackle Anthony Davis after he missed the first three games with a hamstring injury.
