With the rain falling in Green Bay, the running game will be key in Thursday night’s Vikings-Packers matchup.

But having a strong passing game helps, too.

The Packers have both elements working in the elements early in tonight’s matchup, and as a result, the Vikings are in a 14-0 first quarter hole at Lambeau Field.

Aaron Rodgers has thrown a pair of TD passes for host Green Bay, with the Packers’ ground game playing a key role in setting up both scoring tosses.

On the first TD, Rodgers hit Randall Cobb from eight yards out, capping a four-play, 61-yard march in which tailback Eddie Lacy did most of the heavy lifting. Lacy, the second-year pro from Alabama, rumbled for 18 and 29 yards on successive carries to start the drive. On the 29-yard gain, Lacy ran over Vikings safety Robert Blanton, powering forward for some extra yardage near the end of his journey.

On the second TD, Rodgers faked a handoff and found Jordy Nelson behind the defense for a 66-yard score. The play-action worked well, and why wouldn’t it? After, the Packers’ ground game as working so well.

And now, the Vikings need find something that works on offense, too, lest yet another Thursday-night game get completely out of hand.
