Lucas Oil exec creates stir with remarks about “minorities”

The owner of Lucas Oil has complained in the past about the last of prime-time, high-profile games at the stadium that bears his company’s name. His company recently has gotten a very different kind of publicity.

Charlotte Lucas, the wife of company founder Forrest Lucas, posted a Facebook rant on Friday regarding “minorities.”

Via RTV6 in Indy, Mrs. Lucas said, “I’m sick and tired of minorities running our country! As far as I’m concerned, I don’t think that atheists (minority), muslims (minority), or any other minority group has the right to tell the majority of people in the United States what they can and cannot do here. Is everyone so scared that they can’t fight back for what is right and wrong with this country?”

The post was deleted, but Lucas confirmed to RTV6 that she had written it.

“I was very upset when I wrote that,” Lucas said. “I will not elaborate other than to say that there are certain people who are trying to make the whole world eat what they want to eat and do what they want to do. I don’t think it’s any of their business what I put in my mouth. Thank you.”

Why, you’re welcome. Although the rest of us would be a bit more grateful if she explained how complaints about the food police morphed into an attack on atheists, Muslims, and minorities generally.

Meanwhile, at a time when talk of sponsors cutting ties with the NFL have subsided, maybe the NFL should consider cutting ties with this specific sponsor.
