Murray talks preliminary, with no deal imminent

Murray

Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray is having a career year in a contract year. But it’s still too early to know whether the Cowboys will give him a contract that ties him up for more years of his career.

Per a league source, talks between Murray and the Cowboys are very preliminary, with no new deal imminent.

Earlier today, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that the Cowboys already have offered Murray a four-year deal worth more than any running back received in free agency in 2014. But that’s a given; the current rate on a multi-year deal is roughly $3.5 million annually.

Murray is showing that he’s worth much more than that. Worst-case scenario, he’d get the franchise tag, which was $9.54 million in 2014.

Actually, worst-case scenario would be that Murray suffers a serious injury that clouds his value for 2015, forcing him to do a one-year, prove-it style contract next season, with the Cowboys or someone else.
