Peterson’s bond predicament could create a separate problem

Peterson

If it’s true that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had “smoked a little weed” in violation of his criminal bond, Peterson could end up with a separate problem.

If the urine sample Peterson provided after allegedly admitting to its contents contains marijuana metabolites in excess of the new limit of 35 ng/ml, a violation may arise under the substance-abuse policy. If Peterson isn’t already in the substance-abuse program, this could put him in the substance-abuse program. Which means that, instead of one random substance-abuse test per year, Peterson would be subject to up to 10 per month.

If Peterson already is in the program, this incident could push him another step father along in the multi-level process that recently was expanded as part of the new substance-abuse policy.

The more immediate problem for Peterson is that his candor and/or the contents of his urine sample could require lawyer Rusty Hardin to do some serious tap-dancing in order to keep Peterson out of jail pending his December 1 trial. The more likely outcome is that Peterson will receive some sort of a pointed warning that one more false move will result in Peterson being locked up now while awaiting a determination as to whether he’ll be locked up later.
