Even though Philadelphia wasn’t very hospitable to the Giants, one of them stayed an extra night.
Of course, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was in a hospital, after suffering a torn patellar tendon in last night’s shutout loss. He was held overnight, as is expected to return to New York today.
“Incredibly huge loss,’’ Giants coach Tom Coughlin said, via Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “I was standing there with him but it was not a good situation. It was not a good scene.’’
The injury overshadowed a horrible night for the Giants, who lost 27-0 and were overwhelmed in every way imaginable.
Teammates gathered around Cruz as he was carted off in the third quarter, none with much to say in the way of consolation.
“It was tough to say anything to him,’’ quarterback Eli Manning said. “I patted him on the shoulder. He was in some pain. Anything I would have said he wouldn’t have heard me.’’
Now the Giants have to figure out a way to proceed without their leading receiver, and one of the most popular players in the locker room who provided a certain spirit to the team.
