The Titans came into the week not knowing whether quarterback Jake Locker’s right thumb injury has improved enough for him to play against the Redskins this week and they got their first look at Locker on the practice field on Wednesday.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that Locker was a limited participant in practice, but he was throwing the ball and splitting reps with Charlie Whitehurst during the portion of practice open to the media. After the session, Locker said that he was feeling no problems with anything related to the injury.

“I feel good, and I’ll just kind of continue to work with the training staff and coaches and go from there,’' Locker said, via the Tennessean. “I felt good doing everything today, I didn’t have an issue with anything. So that’s positive.”

He’s thrown 40 fewer passes, but Charlie Whitehurst has turned the ball over less often on a percentage basis than Locker while throwing for more yards per attempt. That doesn’t mean that the Titans should make Locker into Nashville’s version of Wally Pipp, but it does drive home the fact that the search for a franchise quarterback continues in Tennessee even once Locker is healthy.
