Bills inspired by getting labeled as underdogs in Vegas

The Bills entered Sunday’s game against the Jets with a 4-3 record while their hosts were riding a six-game losing streak.

Even with the Jets at home and coming off a couple of decent losing efforts to the Broncos and Patriots, it seemed odd that the Bills were considered underdogs by a few points by the bookmakers in Las Vegas. The six turnovers by the bumbling Jets certainly helped the Bills on the way to a 43-23 victory, but wide receiver Mike Williams also credited the motivational impact of the line.

“Its kind of good to beat Vegas,” Williams said, via the Syracuse Post-Standard. “I think a lot of guys took that personal and went out and played hard. That was No. 1 on the bulletin board right there. I think that was the first time a one-win team was favored over a winning team. We kind of took it personal and went out and played.”

It seems odd that anyone would have seen the Jets play this season and pick them as the favorites to beat any team outside of the Raiders club they dispatched in the opening week of the season. The Bills should be pleased to know that they are heavy favorites this week as they take on the dreaded bye.
