We knew the Panthers had a roster move coming to open up a roster spot for offensive lineman Mike Remmers, but it turns out the team had more moves in the works.

The Panthers announced several moves Tuesday morning, including the arrival of Remmers from the Rams practice squad. The team also promoted safety Robert Lester from their own practice squad, waived running back Darrin Reaves and placed linebacker Chase Blackburn on injured reserve.

Blackburn missed the last two games with a knee injury that the team doesn’t think will clear up in time for him to help them this season. The injury ends Blackburn’s second season in Carolina with two starts, 12 tackles and a forced fumble in six games. His playing time dropped from 2013 levels, which may signal the team’s intention to look elsewhere for linebacker help with Blackburn set for free agency.

Lester arrives a day after the Panthers estimated that neither safety Thomas DeCoud nor cornerback Bene’ Benwikere would have practiced as the Panthers move toward Thursday’s game with the Saints. Lester played 12 games for Carolina last year, but hasn’t seen any regular season action this season. Reaves had 32 carries for 77 yards in six games, but DeAngelo Williams’s return knocked him off the 53-man roster.
