The Packers moved Clay Matthews to inside linebacker for last week’s game against the Bears and Matthews responded with one of his best outings of the season in his new digs.
All seemed well, then, until Matthews’s brother Casey chimed in. Casey, who plays linebacker for the Eagles and will be on the opposite sideline from the Packers this Sunday, said that his brother did well but didn’t like the position change all that much.
Clay Matthews was asked about it on Thursday and said, via Paul Imig of FOX Sports Wisconsin, that there wasn’t “much truth” to what his brother said. Matthews did allow that he’d play outside linebacker 100 percent of the time in a perfect world, but added that he was “all for it” when coach Mike McCarthy approached him about making what turned out to be a productive move.
The Packers haven’t said where Matthews will be lining up this week and they’ll likely keep such information to themselves until it is time for their defense to take the field on Sunday. Wherever he winds up, he’ll need to be as productive as he was last week to slow an Eagles offense that didn’t miss a beat with Mark Sanchez under center on Monday night.
