Chiefs storm out to early lead

New York Jets v Kansas City Chiefs

New York Jets v Kansas City Chiefs

Al Pereira

The Chiefs aren’t a particularly flashy offensive team, but they’re efficient and effective when things are working right.

Things were working right on their first possession against the Seahawks. The Chiefs ground out a 15-play, 86-yard drive after forcing a three-and-out to open the game and lead 7-0 after the first quarter at Arrowhead Stadium. The drive, which took just over nine minutes, is the longest of the season for the Chiefs.

It’s also snapped a 29-game streak that saw the Seahawks hold their opponents without a touchdown on the first possession of the game.

Jamaal Charles ran six times for 34 yards, including a one-yard score, and caught two passes for 19 yards to help the Chiefs march down the field. The Chiefs didn’t have a gain longer than 14 yards on the drive, but they kept churning up the yards in just enough pieces to move the chains and keep the clock turning.
