The Chargers have started getting some of their injured players back in the lineup, but guard Jeromey Clary won’t be joining them.

Clary had a pair of hip surgeries during the offseason and landed on the Physically Unable to Prepare list as a result. He never practiced during camp and won’t practice during the regular season either. The team announced on Tuesday that Clary is not returning to the field this week, which means he’s missed his window to resume football work for the 2014 season.

Clary has been a fixture in the San Diego starting lineup since the 2008 season, but is set to become a free agent after the season. His hip injuries and mediocre play during the 2013 season could mean that it’s the end of the line with the team, although those things aren’t likely to make for a hot market in free agency so he could find his way back if the Chargers want an experienced option on the depth chart.
