In fair condition, Newton will remain hospitalized overnight

Getty Images

While it’s becoming increasingly apparently that Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has escaped serious injury in a car accident, Newton is sufficiently injured to remain in the hospital.

According to the Panthers, Newton will remain hospitalized overnight, and he is in fair condition.

Newton flipped his truck multiple times on Tuesday.  He was conscious and smiling when taken by stretcher to a Charlotte-area hospital.

The biggest concern is his health and well being.  Eventually, the question becomes whether he’ll be able to play on Sunday against the Buccaneers.  For now, that’s unclear.

Get better Cam, even though you flipped and trashed my Saints too…

  4. rcali says: Dec 9, 2014 2:48 PM

During at any time during the crash did he rip open his shirt and do the Superman pose?

  5. thegreatgabbert says: Dec 9, 2014 2:48 PM

That picture sums up Newt. I bet he’s out of the league in a couple years.

  6. ilovefoolsball says: Dec 9, 2014 2:49 PM

It doesn’t matter if he plays against the Bucs. They can have Stewart take snaps and they’d still win.

Apparently his truck protects him better then his O-Line.

  8. blkdogcreative says: Dec 9, 2014 2:52 PM

    Hope he’s ok.

  9. afcdomination says: Dec 9, 2014 2:55 PM

but did he break anything? I know it said no “serious” injuries, but in a car accident like that a serious injury is not a simple bone break, so I was just wondering if he is in fair condition and all, did he break anything?

wish him all the best. we all have been there one way or another, and it really wakes you up to what you have

Still will be an easy game with or without him.

  11. torot23 says: Dec 9, 2014 3:03 PM

wow. classless losers all over these comments.

he was struck by a car that ran a stop sign. sheesh.

  12. toadie72 says: Dec 9, 2014 3:04 PM

Staying overnight with no injuries? Concussion protocol? God bless, get well!

  13. goraidersgospurs says: Dec 9, 2014 3:05 PM

Always will be a couple of idiot comments, Get Well cam!!!

  14. smackingfools says: Dec 9, 2014 3:06 PM

According to ‘sources’ Cam Newton died, then broke both legs, then only 1, now he’ll start Sunday.

I might not like the guy, him being an Auburn guy and I’m an Alabama guy…All that stuff but, don’t mean we wish the guy any harm however. Get well soon!

Certainly not being critical of Cam, but man, nothing good happens after midnight!

  17. ymca2014 says: Dec 9, 2014 3:17 PM

True re: rapid fire accident reports. You could say that Cam has definitely resurrected the Panthers playoff hopes.

  18. xmiksticky says: Dec 9, 2014 3:21 PM

That “car” must have been going pretty fast to make a giant truck look like that…

  19. justintuckrule says: Dec 9, 2014 3:24 PM

Driving a truck is the only thing cool about him. Everything else screams eurotrash hot rod.

Funny you should mention that. My office is in the building across the intersection from Bank of America stadium. Some of us were talking about the wreck, as it was 2 blocks from our building. We all figured Cam would do the Superman getting out of the ambulance. And we would love it if he did.

  21. toadie72 says: Dec 9, 2014 3:28 PM

2 broken transverse process, bummer but could have been, well we all know this, get well Cam!

Given that the wreck occurred 3 blocks from the stadium, at lunchtime on a Tuesday during the season, and that he was hit by a car that failed to yield right-of-way, I seriously doubt it.

  23. cornernum23 says: Dec 9, 2014 3:33 PM

No chance he plays Sunday. His team has hardly no chance of making the playoffs, my star player would be resting. Period.

“Certainly not being critical of Cam, but man, nothing good happens after midnight!”

Not sure what this has to do with anything since the accident happened in the middle of the day.

  25. seanx40 says: Dec 9, 2014 3:41 PM

What is wrong with people? While I am all for making fun of crap players doing stupid things, this isn’t that.
He was in car wreck that wasn’t his fault. Such a thing could happen to any of us. At least he wasn’t too badly injured.

  26. dcdallasfan says: Dec 9, 2014 3:57 PM

Wow! He lives (the Trust Building) less that 1 mile from the BOA stadium. I guess this is one of the reasons why insurance companies charge more for short commute to work.

    Praying for you Cam.

  27. grumpyoleman says: Dec 9, 2014 4:00 PM

Apparently they are hoping he will be back after this weeks game.

  28. myeaglescantwin says: Dec 9, 2014 4:19 PM

How does this effect his trade value??

  29. themagicalrighttestical says: Dec 10, 2014 2:36 AM

It was a pretty sweet truck though. I feel more connected to Cam now that he drives the same truck as me.

    Get well soon

  30. campcouch says: Dec 10, 2014 6:23 PM

the man can’t be all bad, he drives a truck…that looks like you can use it…as a truck.
