When the Eagles placed safety Earl Wolff on injured reserve last month, they signed cornerback Roc Carmichael to replace him on the roster.
They’ve decided to go another way. On Tuesday, the team announced that they released Carmichael and they sent word on Wednesday that they have signed safety Jerome Couplin off of the Lions’ practice squad.
Couplin, who went undrafted out of William & Mary in May, spent time on Detroit’s active roster before landing on the auxiliary roster. He saw action in eight games and recorded two tackles for the Lions.
With Couplin on board, the Eagles now have five safeties on their active roster. Malcolm Jenkins and Nate Allen hold down the starting roles and backups Chris Prosinski and Chris Maragos have mostly been special teams contributors this season.
