With rookie tailback Lorenzo Taliaferro questionable for Sunday’s game vs. Jacksonville with a foot injury, the Ravens have signed some backfield depth, promoting Fitzgerald Toussaint from the practice squad.

Toussaint takes the roster spot of offensive tackle Jah Reid, who was placed on injured reserve with a hand injury.

The roster moves were announced in the NFL’s personnel notice on Saturday.

An undrafted rookie from Michigan, the 24-year-old Toussaint was on the Ravens’ 53-player roster for a pair of games earlier this season.

The 22-year-old Taliaferro ranks third on the Ravens in rushing yards (292) and carries (68). He did not practice all week. According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Taliaferro isn’t anticipated to be available on Sunday.

If Taliaferro can’t go, Bernard Pierce will be the top backup to Justin Forsett at running back.

It’s good to see Fitz finally take the field. He and Bradley Fletcher are from Youngstown where I live. The pride of Liberty High School and I’m a Browns fan. This kid has raw talent and miss watching him run for 200 yards average every Friday night. Hell his senior year at Liberty he rushed for over 2200 yards.

The joy of the closed captioning technicians over not having to spell Lorenzo Taliaferro was quickly tempered when they learned his replacement would be Fitzgerald Toussaint.

The Aints could have signed him off the practice squad if they wanted to before today. If he does good and gets put back on the practice squad, they can grab him then.

I’m surprised no other teams picked him up off practice squad. I think, if he plays and does well. We might not have him anymore.
