RGIII touchdown run wiped out on review, Santana Moss ejected as half comes to an end

Washington Redskins v New York Giants

Washington Redskins v New York Giants

Whether you love him, hate him or feel somewhere in between, it’s hard to argue that the Robert Griffin III era has been dull.

It certainly hasn’t been dull in the first half at MetLife Stadium. Griffin came off the bench after Colt McCoy’s neck injury forced him out of the game early in the first quarter and led the Redskins to a 10-7 lead over the Giants at halftime. It looked like the lead would grow to 10 points as Griffin ran for what was initially ruled a touchdown on the field. Upon review, though, referee Jeff Triplette ruled that Griffin did not possess the ball as he dove over the goal line and fumbled for a Giants touchback.

Griffin did lose the ball as he dove, but had it back in his hands before losing it again he hit the ground in the end zone. Triplette ruled that he did not complete the play, something that’s more commonly seen when discussing a reception than a running play.

That led to a furious response from several Redskins, including wide receiver Santana Moss. Moss was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected from the game as the Giants made their way to the locker room.

Griffin threw a touchdown pass to Chris Thompson and finished the half 9-of-14 for 140 yards. The Redskins defense has held the Giants to just 96 yards, which has helped push Washington 30 minutes away from moving out of sole possession of last place in the NFC East.
