Report: Ravens director of security charged with sex crime

The head of security for the Baltimore Ravens has reportedly been charged with a sex offense.

The Baltimore Sun reports that police obtained a summons for Darren I. Sanders, the Ravens’ senior director of security, on a charge of fourth-degree sex offense.

A complaint was lodged against Sanders on December 14. No details of the accusations against Sanders have been published, and the Baltimore Sun reports that neither Sanders’s lawyer nor a spokesperson for the Ravens has responded to requests for comment.

Sanders has been in trouble before during his tenure providing security for the Ravens. In 2004, Sanders accidentally discharged his gun while attending a basketball game with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. Sanders had to be taken to the hospital as a result of injuries suffered in that incident, and he was charged with unlawfully bringing a pistol into an assembly where admission is charged.

The Ray Rice case has recently brought scrutiny to Sanders, who says he asked security at the casino where Rice assaulted his wife to forward him footage of the incident. Sanders said that despite that request, he never saw the now-infamous elevator video until after it was published by TMZ.

Sanders has a February 9 court date on the sex offense charge.
