Every year brings a list of head coaching candidates that make the rounds with most or all of the teams looking for a head coach and this year’s version is coming into focus a couple of days after Black Monday.

Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase has a place at the top of that list. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bears have asked for permission to interview Gase, who has also drawn interest from the Falcons and 49ers as they hunt for someone to head up their coaching staffs.

If Gase does get the job in Chicago, he’ll either be charged with getting another Denver emigre into gear if the Bears hold onto Jay Cutler or plotting the team’s course with a new quarterback while also getting the team’s defense into shape after a dismal 2014 season.

Gase, who declined an opportunity to interview with the Browns last year, can interview with teams this week while the Broncos ride out their bye week before kicking off postseason play in the Divisional Round.
