Gary Kubiak won’t interview for head coaching jobs while Ravens are in the playoffs

AP

Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is generating some interest from teams with head coaching vacancies and it looks like they’ll be rooting for the Steelers this Saturday if they want to find out if Kubiak is their man sooner rather than later.

Kubiak can’t interview for any jobs this week with the Ravens preparing to face the Steelers, but he could speak to teams next week if the Ravens advance to the next round. On Wednesday, though, Kubiak told reporters that he’s informed John Harbaugh that he won’t interview with any teams as long as Baltimore’s season is alive.

“I said, ‘John if anybody wants to talk to me, just tell them no. I’m a busy man right now. I’ve got a lot to do,'” Kubiak said, via the team’s website. “I think it’s always flattering as a coach to be mentioned by any organization in football. But my total focus is on our football game, what we’re doing, and trying to enjoy what I’m doing right now.”

Kubiak didn’t say whether he would interview with teams after the Ravens are out of the playoffs. There have been reports of interest from both the Jets and Bears in speaking with Kubiak, who coached the Texans for eight years before being fired last year. The Ravens set franchise records for points and total yards in Kubiak’s lone season running the offense.

He would be a very good coach wherever he gets the second chance. I liked him while he coached for the Texans.

Normally he’s be in danger of being passed over, but since they’ll be out of the playoffs in 5 days it shouldn’t hurt him too much.

He did quite well in Houston until his qb failed to show up for games, and when he did, he played for the other team

If there was ever a guy whose health should cause him to avoid a really high stress job, it’s him. Hope he stays as the OC and enjoys life.

    It’s too soon.

Plus, he needs to find answers to the problems JAX, HOU, and CLE gave that offense in their last 3 games.

Is this a futile attempt to put your own name out there? Cause nobody is calling this guy, ever.

Oh stop it already…..You can’t take 3 hours out of one day next week to interview for a head coaching job? Any interview would take place in Baltimore….Does he think he has that much juice were teams will wait until after the SB (if they make it that far) to hire a coach??? He’s probably still collecting a check from Houston right now and kinda likes get paid HC salary to be a OC after that crash and burn he went through last yr….

He deserves another shot to be a head coach. Matt Schaub basically single-handedly lost him his job in the first place. If you put him with a really good quarterback like Matt Ryan, for instance, I think he’ll have a lot of success.

The Steelers should make this a non-issue on Saturday, Gary! Tell them you will be free on Sunday morning and thereafter.

He’s not going anywhere right now. Especially to Chicago or NY. He’s going to have to prepare for the Patriots anyway. LeVeon Bell over 2200 yards from scrimmage. No Show=big loss of production. Just like what the Ravens lost without Rice. Ngata hasn’t played in a month and is healthy and rested. You do the math. Here we go Pissburgh here we go!

Let me fix this line right here for coach Kubiak.

(copy/paste) “But my total focus is on our football game, what we’re doing, and trying to enjoy what I’m doing right now.””

Instead of using the word “trying”, he should have phrased his statement like this.

(copy/paste/fix) But my total focus is on our football game, what we’re doing, and (I AM) enjoy what I’m doing right now.”

The word “trying” leads to the perception that he has to put effort into enjoying what he is doing.
