The Buccaneers have an opening for an offensive coordinator and the early candidates to emerge were coordinators left twisting in the wind when their teams fired their head coaches earlier this week.

It appears that their search will move beyond the likes of Dirk Koetter, however. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that Tampa is expected to request an interview with Titans tight ends coach Mike Mularkey as they continue to look for the right person to run their offense.

Mularkey joined Ken Whisenhunt’s staff in Tennessee this year for his first job since being dismissed as Jaguars head coach after the 2012 season. He also spent two years as the Bills head coach a decade ago before resigning in a move that Doug Marrone mimicked when he opted out of his deal with Buffalo after two seasons on the job.

Mularkey has also been the offensive coordinator with the Steelers, Dolphins and Falcons at different points in his career. His Falcons stint coincided with the first four years of Matt Ryan’s career and whoever gets the Tampa job is likely going to be working with a rookie quarterback with the Bucs holding the first overall pick in the 2015 draft.
