Former Giants head coach and Eagles quarterback Allie Sherman passed away on Saturday, the New York Times reported. He was 91.

Sherman coached the Giants from 1961 to 1968, leading the franchise to a 57-54-4 record. In his first three seasons, the Giants won the Eastern Conference and advanced to the NFL Championship Game, but they lost in the title game each time, falling to the Packers in ’61 and ’62 and the Bears in ’63.

As a player, Sherman logged five NFL seasons (1943-1947), the first with the merged Steelers-Eagles club and the final four with the Eagles.

After his coaching career, Sherman was an NFL analyst with ESPN.

He is survived by his wife, three children and two grandchildren, the Times said.
