The Bears’ search for a general manager is picking up this week.

The team announced that they interviewed Texans director of pro personnel Brian Gaine and Titans vice president of player personnel Lake Dawson on Tuesday. They are the first announced interviews of the process for the Bears.

Gaine spent 2014 with Houston after spending two years as the assistant general manager in Miami. He left the Dolphins after they hired Dennis Hickey to replace Jeff Ireland, although getting passed over for that job might not look that bad now that Mike Tannenbaum has been inserted into the front office mix in Miami. Dawson has spent eight years with the Titans and has joined Gaine on the interview circuit for a promotion over the last couple of years.

Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard, a former Bears exec and reported favorite for the job, is set to interview on Wednesday. If his presumed status as frontrunner is correct, the Bears could have their man in place soon and then move on to finding their next head coach.
