Getty ImagesThe Chargers never had offensive lineman Jeromey Clary on the field during the 2014 season as hip problems wound up keeping him off the field for all 16 games and they won’t get him back in 2015.
Clary announced his retirement on Thursday after nine years with the Chargers. Coach Mike McCoy, General Manager Tom Telesco and quarterback Philip Rivers all praised Clary in a release from the team announcing Clary’s decision.
“Honestly, it has been a long time coming now with the two hip injuries,” Clary said. “San Diego was a great place to play, and I couldn’t have asked for a better organization to play for. All the coaches and all the players I was with, and the friendships I’ve built … I’m honored to have played for an organization like this. It means the world to me. I’ve processed this decision a lot and gone through it a lot, and to be honest with you, I’m really excited about the future. I look forward to getting back to Texas and being around my family.”
Clary joined the team as a sixth-round pick in 2006 and started 93 games at tackle and guard for the team.
Never a great player but always played hard and was always a leader who was tough as nails. He didn’t get into the NFL because of his athleticism, but he stayed due to his effort. Best of luck in your future 66.
It’s always a little sad to see players retire early. With that said, the Chargers set this guy up for life, and all he did to deserve it was be a big matador.
Good luck in retirement, Clary. Ride off into the Texas sunset with your millions upon questionably deserved millions.
One of the few NFL players who actually wears his Madden rating on his jersey.
He had a good career
He was a solid player, o-line and d-line are tough positions to play, you take a beating almost every play. Always good for at least 1 holding call per game. Enjoy retirement #66…
