Jason Garrett thought Dez Bryant caught the ball, doesn’t blame officials for loss

Divisional Playoffs - Dallas Cowboys v Green Bay Packers

Divisional Playoffs - Dallas Cowboys v Green Bay Packers

During an interview with FOX Sports after Sunday’s 26-21 loss to the Packers, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett shared an opinion that’s sure to be a popular one in Dallas.

Garrett said he thought wide receiver Dez Bryant had established possession of the ball on the fourth down pass near the Green Bay end zone that was originally ruled a catch on the field. Packers coach Mike McCarthy challenged that ruling because the ball came out of Bryant’s grasp briefly after he hit the ground and referee Gene Steratore overruled the call on the field to give the ball back to the Packers.

Garrett said he thought that Bryant had secured the ball and made “moves common to the game” before hitting the ground. But Garrett wasn’t willing to tag the loss on Steratore’s ruling.

Garrett said that the Cowboys had 60 minutes to make the plays they needed to make to win the game and that “this game wasn’t about the officiating.” Some of those convinced that Bryant did enough to possess the ball may feel otherwise.
