Report: Broncos to request interview with Gary Kubiak

AP

After the Ravens lost to the Patriots, offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak said that he had no interest in pursuing head coaching jobs this offseason and would return to Baltimore for the 2015 season.

Kubiak made those comments before the Broncos and coach John Fox became the latest team and coach to suddenly discover that they both wanted nothing to do with each other. The Broncos reportedly want to see if that change of circumstance leads Kubiak to change his mind about refusing interviews.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Broncos will request an interview with Kubiak, who has a long history with the organization. Kubiak played nine years for the Broncos, spending all that time as the backup to current General Manager John Elway. He then returned to the team as an assistant coach in 1995 and spent 11 years as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator under Mike Shanahan, winning a pair of Super Bowls in the process.

Kubiak may still prefer to remain in Baltimore, but there’s nothing for the Broncos to lose by asking if a longtime member of the organization wants to come back.

I dont see Kubiak reneging on his word. He already gave his word to the #Ravens Organization he is committed for at least this 2015 season. He strikes me as much more Professional than that & also a BIGGER Man than that, Any REAL man knows once you give your word, Its BOND, Thats just how REAL Men Carry It .

If Manning stays, his skills don’t translate to Kubiak’s offense, and if Mnning retires, Kubiak has an unsettled quarterback situation. Either way, it’s lose/lose for Kubiak to head to Denver this year.

Peyton Manning is now a coach killer.. joking, but really did the Bronco’s just pull a 49er? what happened?

What about Norv Turner or Barry Switzer?

They have to know if he’d say yes or no to the interview already. I’m sure they formally have to request the interview because Kubiak is under contract but couldn’t Elway just call his buddy and ask “you interested bro?” before making the request. Likewise I’m sure the Ravens will ask Kubiak “you interested bro?” and have a good sense if he’ll leave or stay put.

Broncos are on the brink of rebuilding around another QB. That may or may not be attractive to a HC and could risk a lot of lean years in Denver.

I thought the “ultimate goal” was super bowls.

Hope he stays in Baltimore. If he takes the Broncos job, can’t fault him, but it will ultimately lead to a rift in his personal friendship with Elway, because every job in the NFL comes to an end one day. and for coaches usually it is a firing.

Kubiak is the best coaching candidate in the NFL, unfortunately he is going nowhere until the Ravens get a ring or 2 years from now whatever comes faster…

Kubiak will not coach a team without a HOF caliber QB, its not worth the agrivation for a dude with resume.

Further proof that Elway doesn’t belong in a front office

Let him stay in Baltimore! I want the BIG FISH! URBAN MYERS!!!!!!!!

  12. talkingproud says: Jan 13, 2015 8:28 AM

Seems like the only logical choice in Denver

  13. sdchicken says: Jan 13, 2015 8:32 AM

I wonder if Urban Meyer would consider the NFL…Broncos or niners?

Because spending his entire playing career in Elway’s shadow isn’t enough?

  16. letsgolos says: Jan 13, 2015 8:49 AM

They need to find somebody who can groom Osweiler or whatever other young QB they decide to hand the keys to. Flacco had his best regular season this year, in my opinion. Would hate to see Kubiak go, but he might be the exact right fit off them…

  17. itsfootballbaby says: Jan 13, 2015 8:58 AM

He won’t take it. He knows that Peyton is done and he’ll be in quarterback purgatory in a year or two.

  18. opneon says: Jan 13, 2015 9:07 AM

I’m a Ravens fan and would love to see Kubiak return – but I always assumed he would leave at some point.
So, even though he said he would stay, I would give him the right to take his dream-job with Elway & Co.
That is as long as we can keep his QB coach here as OC. Wasn’t that the deal when they came here as a duo?

  19. tommyribs says: Jan 13, 2015 9:28 AM

Josh McDaniels could be a good fit.

    No?

    Broncos should bring Tebow back.

I don’t think Kubiak has to worry about REAL men in the Raven organization….liars maybe, but no real men shouldn’t be a concern.

Kubiak needs to find out if Peyton’s health is ok for one last go if not he has it good with toss it up and pray for PI Flacco.

Hope he stays in Baltimore – he helped us win the division.

  23. 1509lucky says: Jan 13, 2015 10:59 AM

What does this say about Adam Gase,if they’re willing to talk to Kubiak? Has to damage his stock among other teams if he’s not an option in Denver.

  24. r8dernation says: Jan 13, 2015 12:03 PM

Just think of how many Pick Sixes Manning would throw in that offense. But hey, if Manning moves on, there’s always a trade for Schaub so he can reunite with Kubiak. Call it, Houston North.

“Hope he stays in Baltimore – he helped us win the division”

And helped you with an early playoff exit too!

Pretty sure Ben’s 6 TD performance was aided by a pathetic secondary that Brady also managed to embarrass.

  26. trollaikman8 says: Jan 13, 2015 1:10 PM

He’ll carry the water for Elway. Is Elway the new Jerry Jones?

His pass offense may help Peyton’s noodle arm.

  27. sladewillson says: Jan 13, 2015 3:44 PM

People also forget that Peyton is not in any way mobile enough for Kubiak’s system. (assuming Peyton comes back for another year)

If Peyton does hang up his cleats then Kubiak is stuck in a job without a QB worth talking about.

Either way I would hate to see Kubiak go for two reasons 1) He is the best this that happened to the Ravens offense in years is not ever. 2) It would suck to see him leave the Ravens for a job that he is doomed to lose in two – three years tops.

  28. bunkmcnulty says: Jan 13, 2015 4:10 PM

Funny to see Steeler fans rip on the Ravens for their OC. You all couldn’t wait to get rid of Bruce Arians a couple years back. Even Ben lamented that. How has he done since he left? Let me answer, nothing but accolades.

Now you have Haley. All of you hated him last year. You wanted him fired. Now, you finally have a talented RB and Haley is a genius and gets extended. Really? I thought all you Steeler fans knew football.

You claim to be the most knowledgeable fan base, when, with a few exceptions, you are by far the least objective.

…..and then get embarassed in the first round of the playoffs.

How can yinz stiller fans brag about winning the division in a season in which you lost 2 of 3 to the Ravens (including the beatdown that ended your season). And I wont even bring up the Jets, Saints or Bucs losses. Congrats on the division, now go draft 4 spots ahead of the Ravens

Kubiak wants to be a head coach again and his true home is in Denver. This is where he played, this is where he won his Super Bowls with Elway, and this where he will retire as one of the greatest Broncos coaches ever to walk the halls at Dove Valley.

  31. johnniemayes says: Jan 13, 2015 5:37 PM

All you people saying Kubiak won’t take the job in Denver are nuts. Kubiak has a long long history with Elway and the Broncos and loves it here.

  32. radar8 says: Jan 14, 2015 9:28 AM

Does that mean that the Broncos don’t want Gase? THe rest of the league is interviewing him for a HC job, but no word from his own team.

    Odd.

It looks like Kubiak has the keys from what’s flying around the news and the web. Wow.
