There’s a new defensive coordinator in Washington.

Joe Barry, who is currently the linebackers coach in San Diego, will be the new defensive coordinator in Washington, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Barry has been a defensive coordinator once before, and it did not go well: He was on the job in 2008 in Detroit, when the Lions went 0-16, and as the season went downhill there were accusations that Barry got the job not because he was the best person for it but because he is the son-in-law of then-Lions head coach Rod Marinelli.

Since Marinelli, Barry and the rest of the staff were fired after that 0-16 season, Barry has spent one year in Tampa Bay as linebackers coach, one year at USC as linebackers coach, and four years in San diego as linebackers coach.
