Gary Kubiak lost his job as the Texans head coach in 2013, spent last year running the Ravens offense and he’ll kick off the 2015 season as the head coach of the Broncos.

Kubiak was the second offensive coordinator in as many years to move to a head coaching job, following Jim Caldwell’s lead, and Marc Trestman may be trying to follow the same path. The Ravens announced that they have hired the former Bears head coach as their offensive coordinator a day after Kubiak was announced as the coach in Denver.

Trestman drew a lot of interest around the league as an offensive coordinator after the Bears fired him following two years as a head coach. He’ll now try to maintain the high levels that the Ravens offense hit with Kubiak at the controls and may have to do it with different pieces if pending free agents like Justin Forsett, Torrey Smith and Owen Daniels don’t return to the team.

The Bears were a disaster in 2014, but Trestman has found success in offense-only roles in the past. Doing the same in Baltimore will rehab his reputation a bit, although it’s probably a stretch to think that he can follow Kubiak’s lead to make a quick return to a head coaching position.
