Brandon Bostick heading to Minnesota after Packers cut him

Getty Images

Packers tight end Brandon Bostick paid for his special teams gaffe with his job.

But he’s apparently found another one quickly.

Minneapolis-based agent Blake Baratz just tweeted out word that Bostick’s “coming to my hood,” and “Great landing spot, in my backyard, the best is yet to come my man!”

Bostick was waived yesterday, so it’s likely a waiver claim.

Bostick was released after misplaying the onsides kick that allowed the Seahawks to come back and win the NFC Championship, a play he might have never lived down in Green Bay.

He had nine receptions in two years with the Packers, and never took advantage of the opportunity to play a larger role this year.

But the Vikings are apparently going to give him a chance to make the Packers pay again.

And that pony show and clown music has brought the Packers 4 Superbowl rings.

That picture sums up everything. Congrats Vikings. Better than drafting a tight end too early. See bust Rudolph

ok but to be honest, I think that he is going to be unleashed there. I feel we didnt let him play.

What a waste. Does Spielman think he’s going to put on weight and play OL?! Switch him to LB or DB?!

WHY THE F DO WE KEEP MAKING TRANSACTIONS LIKE THIS?!

We have 4 TE on our roster now that we cannot utilize, why add a 5th?!

Like BHINRICHS9 said, it’s hard to defend this team (or talk smack about other teams) when they do BS like this…….

  21. packersfn7 says: Feb 18, 2015 5:26 PM

He’s remembered for making a TERRIBLE play. But beyond that, you don’t remember him, because he was a TERRIBLE TE. We had no one at the position and he still struggled. I really respect that he took ownership for the Seattle gaffe and I hope that he can step up his game for the Vikes but he really didn’t fit with the Packers. Also #SKOLOLOLOL

Actually, this move makes perfect sense. On one hand, you have a TE that simply choked at the most critical moment, everybody makes mistakes but Bostick blew chunks on the biggest stage at the biggest moment on that stage.

He joins a franchise that has literally redefined the word, choke. Losers of 4 Superbowls, where they were favored in all 4 and yet never held a lead for even a second in any of the Superbowls, losers of the last NFC Championship games they appeared.

Its a match made in heaven.

How many times do the Vikings have to lose to the Packers before they realize that you can’t beat the Packers by building a roster out of players who are not good enough to hold a spot on the Packers roster?

  46. blowfishes says: Feb 18, 2015 5:48 PM

Guy certainly deserves another chance, as it’s a team game, and the Packers lost that game as a team.

Out of all the teams in the League, Minnesota seems a good fit, and the players are more likely to follow any jokes about his unfortunate play against the Seahawks with a high five!

Another camp body who might have some knowledge of the Packers 2014 playbook. If he makes the final 53 roster, then it will have saved the Vikings from using a mid to late round draft choice this year on the position.

Actually, Guion started all 28 games he played for MN in 2012 and 2013. I guess it just took better coaching to get him to put up serviceable numbers.

As for Bostick, I guess he found the perfect solution to his biggest problem. The easiest way to not make any more mistakes in a playoff game is to sign with a team that won’t make the playoffs.

  80. emoney826 says: Feb 18, 2015 6:54 PM

Oh this is too easy! This organization is such a joke. Even if he gets cut eventually, the fact that they’re giving him an opportunity after what they saw from him in green bay, shows how terrible their talent evaluators are.

And to the few of you saying that the packers sign viking rejects, that was ONE person. Your team has signed enough packers to fill an entire roster.

  81. jermainewiggins says: Feb 18, 2015 6:54 PM

  82. gtodriver says: Feb 18, 2015 6:58 PM

I don’t know if Bostick will make it with the Vikings or not. Could be just a camp body.

But facts are facts. McCarthy fired his special teams coach – which means that the players weren’t being coached properly.

The Vikings have one of the better special teams units in the NFL – and maybe that’s due to a better ST coaching staff.

I’m not excited or dejected because of a waiver claim. It didn’t cost us a draft pick and the money is negligible.

If Brandon can show something in camp to earn a spot, more power to him.

Now, Packer fans, you can continue to troll about the one of the scapegoats of your NFC Championship CHOKE job…

I think Ted Thompson probably should have cut Mike McCarthy. He had more to do with the loss than Brandon Bostick did.

i keep seeing packer fans claiming he has terrible hands, dumb as rocks, can’t block, etc. maybe those are the reasons the genius ted thompson brought him aboard? more likely they’re just turning on him like they do every ex-packer. to be honest, it doesn’t take much to make that team as a tight end, so this time they may be right.

looks like a depth signing to help get the vikings to a 90 man roster for training camp, maybe provide some insight on a division rival. either way, congrats to the kid for landing in an offense that knows how to use a tight end.

  93. joker65 says: Feb 18, 2015 7:29 PM

He didn’t realize the Packers used a playbook as they play at an over glorified high school stadium known as Lambeau Field. Granted the Vikings currently play at a College Stadium, but it’s still a step up.

    1. He was a rookie that showed potential.
    2. This was his 3rd year on the team, but 2nd year actually playing. He was on the practice squad the entire 2012 season.
    3. He was demoted to Special teams after he lost his starting position to a rookie for struggling with the playbook.

  108. aferraridriver says: Feb 18, 2015 8:20 PM

I believe Bostick is a decent guy, but struggles with his lack of intelligence. He was unable to adequately learn his responsibilities on the football field in three years and his gaff in the playoff game simply could not occur without serious consequences.

Best of luck to the young man and hope his future is bright.

  109. packsoldier says: Feb 18, 2015 8:22 PM

The Minnesota Vikings are beyond parody.

So envious of the Packers that they will desperately sign any warm body the Packers cut – even a benchwarmer who made one of the biggest gaffes in NFL playoff history.

@seapoeschl, Bostick hasn’t even made the Vikes’ 53-man roster yet, let alone be used in a game. If there’s any team that should be laughed at when it comes to Bostick, it’s the Packers, not the Vikings. Not only did the Pack sign him, keep him, and play him, but they did it to disastrous consequences.
All the Vikes have done is pick up a body for minimal cost in the off season.

  112. brewersfan1102 says: Feb 18, 2015 8:32 PM

It’s not the fact that they signed him, it is the fact that they claimed him off of the waivers. For a team that has history of bringing in ex-packers, this is just hilarious. I almost believe that they signed him as a joke.

The Packers had 4 TEs on their roster. 2 were rookies and 2 had a few years of experience. If Bostick did his job, then nothing wrong would have happened. I still believe that he would have been cut after the season.

According to your logic, do you think that Ponder could have been the next Aaron Rodgers if he had a QB coaching staff like the Packers? You are pretty much saying the reason that Bostick made the mistake was because of coaching and not the fact that he didn’t do what he was supposed to do.

I’m looking forward to Bostick claiming he was brainwashed in Green Bay.

Manipulated into a winning cult of superiority over other NFL opponents.
It will do him good to wallow in mediocrity for a while.

To clear up some misconceptions, Bostick was signed as an undrafted TE in 2012.
He spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad.
Though given every opportunity over the last 2 years to crack the starting lineup, he has failed and was relegated to special teams.
He honestly possesses the size and speed to be a very good TE in this league, but injuries, questions about his overall football smarts and work ethic has derailed his career in Green Bay.

He’s young and if the light bulb ever ignites for this kid, maybe he’ll be able to salvage his career.

There is not another scenario in all of professional sports where one team has consistently picked up another team’s cast offs like the Vikings have with Packer players. (Guion was a one year free agent contract to back up Raji and will not be back next year).

  130. cribbage12 says: Feb 18, 2015 10:01 PM

  133. beerbratscheese says: Feb 18, 2015 10:08 PM

I have to laugh at all the Vikings fans saying he’ll be good because he’ll “finally be coached by a decent special teams coach.”

I mean, fair enough, but the Packer didn’t sign him as an undrafted free agent to play special teams. Their goal was to take a few years and develop him into a play-making TE. In three years the guy just couldn’t grasp the playbook. He literally only had four targets on offense last season.

He would have been cut this off season whether or not he fumbled that onside kick or not. It’s simply a matter of the Packers realizing that, after three years, he was not going to develop into an NFL-caliber TE.

  134. bastageman says: Feb 18, 2015 10:23 PM
