Getty ImagesThe Ricky Jean Francois free-agency tour has ended. Jean Francois, per a source with knowledge of the situation, has signed a three-year deal in Washington.
Cut by the Colts earlier this month, Jean Francois attracted interest from several teams (Washington, 49ers, Seahawks) in a process shepherded by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
Per the source, the agreement has a base value of $9 million, with $4 million guaranteed. It’s unclear how much of that is fully guaranteed at signing. With incentives, the deal could be worth up to $11.25 million.
Jean Francois spent the last two seasons in Indianapolis after starting his career with the 49ers as a draft pick of former 49ers G.M. (and new Washington G.M.) Scot McCloughan.
Jean-Francois just took your money Stephan Bowen, happy trails.
$4 million guaranteed to a backup lineman who just got cut from a team that doesn’t have much on the D-Line. Dan is so smart; that’s why the Washingtons are winners.
So Dan signed him, I thought that what the GM was for…
If the Seahawks would’ve signed him you all would be saying how good of a signing it is.
Another retread as usual.
I realy wanted to like this guy when he was with the Colts, but he rarely saw the feild.

But the Seahawks didn’t sign him. You know why?
They’re too smart.
4 million over 3 years. Whoa! We’re screwed if this signing doesnt work.
The more things change in washington. The more they stay the same. Terrible signing. Missed on the player and the money. This is why they continually suck.

Rosenhaus! You really believe that these other teams wanted Jean Francois? I wouldn’t believe him ever. Only Washington would give this guy a base salary of $9 mil.

It’s a three-year contract with a max TOTAL value of $9M, with only $4M guaranteed.
Now that they have Pierre garcon and Jean-Francois, who’s covering this team now? Charlie hebdo?
that’s a steal if he plays to his potential or even close-he’s an absolute beast. book it and hail, we just keep getting better; theisman, williams, and rypien oh my; AWESOME.

Was expecting this comment- and it’s such a copout. You want to know the difference? If you’re Seattle and you’re looking at a recently cut fringe DT…it’s because he may serve some use as a rotational guy who has played in the division before.
If you’re Washington…your D is already barely a step above garbage and you’re signing said recently cut fringe DT as essentially an every down guy. Yikes.
But hey…you got a lot of likes. Good for you!
I think most of you are missing the point. The Redskins are signing some low cost people to get to the minimum salary cap level, and doing so without creating any long-term damage to their salary cap situation. They’re not going to be signing any top-tier free agents to big contracts in the near future; this signing is just filling out the roster to keep the spending at a reasonable level once they cut Bowen and possibly Cofield. So begins the level-headed approach to building a team by Scot McLoughan.
Hail to the REDSKINS!!!!
If the Seahawks signed him it would have been a good signing but obviously they didn’t think enough of him to sign him. All things being equal would you go to a 3-13 dysfunctional organization or a winning team like the Hawks? Drew strikes again.

Both SF & SEA didn’t land him..that tells you he got overpaid my WAS. Hell SF drafted him and didn’t go that much $$
RJF: a good guy & a decent D lineman. The Skins could have done much worse.
Good luck Ricky – Niner Nation
Could be a good pick up for the Redskins. I though for sure he would head back to the San Francisco team.
Wow didn’t know there was a mark for Ricky Jean. Thought for sure he would return to sf as a role player. Good luck with that Washington..you overpaid a backup

It’s actually 9mil over 3 years..no it doesn’t hurt, however the redpotatoes aren’t in a position to just toss 3 mil a year around.
Low cost guy…. Good signing…. Probably get the same production from him they’re gonna get from Hatcher, who costs a lot more.. 28 isnt too old, I say thumbs up. For the same kind of money that should’ve kept Lorenzo Alexander…. That was a shame
For the people complaining about the price, he’s got the size/agility to be a 3-4 DE or play on on the inside on passing downs. Those guys always have a market even if they don’t put a lot of stat sheet numbers up.
