Getty ImagesOne of the top restricted free agents in the Class of 2015 has received the second-highest tender from his club.
Jets nose tackle Damon Harrison has been tendered at the second-round level, the team said Monday. The Jets’ offer is a one-year, $2.356 million contract. Until he signs the tender, Harrison can seek other offers, but New York has the right to match. Any club wanting to sign away the 26-year-old Harrison would have to surrender a second-round pick.
A 16-game starter the last two seasons for the Jets, Harrison (6-4, 350) notched 55 tackles in 2014. He is PFT’s 74th-rated free agent.
The Jets also announced they had tendered safety Jaiquawn Jarrett at the original-round level. Jarrett, 25, started 5-of-14 games in 2014 for New York, making 40 tackles and picking off two passes.
Jarrett will receive a one-year offer for about $1.54 million. The Jets would receive a third-round pick if he is signed away, the club said. Jarrett was originally a second-round pick of Philadelphia in 2011.
As a Jetfan I would be surprised if a 3-4 team didn’t make him an offer that the Jets could refuse. 2nd rounder for the best NT in the game is a small price to pay. Come on Chicago you can do it!!!! I’d like to see my boys stay in a 4 man front, seeings most teams spend the majority of their D snaps in sub packages anyways.
I doubt anyone makes an offer. He might be amazing against the run, but doesn’t do much in terms of pass rush. A 2 down NT is not the best NT in the league.
Yea Jetfan74 sorry not best NT in the game. He is a solid player no doubt, one of the best at stopping the run.
Thats good value for the Jets, if someone signs him they get a 2nd round pick. Win-win.
Have to keep him. You know he is a good if not very good player. You have no idea what you might get with a 2nd round pick. Keep your home grown good football players.
You are right you do not know what you get in the second round. But hey you could also sign Vince Wilfork, trade up with those two second round picks and draft a stud OL. But hey I guess over paying for home grown players is smart too.
Jets know the risk they are taking, it’s worth it.
