The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed linebacker Mike Morgan but decided not to tender receiver Bryan Walters ahead of the beginning of the 2015 league year on Tuesday.
Morgan and Walters were both restricted free agents for Seattle. The Seahawks signed Morgan to a new deal instead of tendering him as restricted free agent.
Walters was not tendered an offer by Seattle and will become an unrestricted free agent.
Morgan is one of Seattle’s core special teams players and serves as a backup to K.J. Wright at strong-side linebacker. He can also rush the passer as a defensive end in sub packages. He’s appeared in 53 games in four seasons with 40 tackles.
Walters served primarily as Seattle’s punt returner last season. He had 27 punt returns for 207 yards last season and caught six passes for 57 yards.
In addition, the Seahawks also tendered receiver Ricardo Lockette and defensive back DeShawn Shead as exclusive rights free agents.
