Steelers inquired about Revis on Tuesday

Revis

Lost in Tuesday’s free-agency frenzy and big-trade trifecta was a nugget that was both nonsensical and intriguing.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported at one point that the Steelers had inquired about cornerback Darrelle Revis.

The Steelers aren’t in the habit of spending big on strangers to the organization; it’s hard enough for the team’s home-grown superstars to get big money. Besides, the Steelers don’t have the kind of cap space to make a competitive offer to Revis.

So the inquiry may have gone something like this: “Darrelle played at Pitt and grew up in Aliquippa. Is he interested in coming home for peanuts?”

Whatever the pitch, it’s unusual that the Steelers would take a flier on a guy whom they never would have been able to afford, and it underscores the reality that they need help at the position.
