The Jaguars re-signed Tyson Alualu and added Jared Odrick this month, which appears to have left no room on the defensive line for Red Bryant.
Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports that the Jaguars have released Bryant on Thursday. The move comes a year after Bryant reunited with former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in Jacksonville following his release from the Seahawks.
Bryant started 16 games at defensive end for Jacksonville last year, a role that might be going to Odrick this season, and had 23 tackles and a forced fumble to show for his efforts. He did his best work against the run and he’ll likely land with a team that wants to improve its work in that area now that he’s on the open market.
Bryant was due a $500,000 roster bonus this weekend and the Jaguars gain $4.5 million in cap space as a result of the move.
