The Rams have added another interesting player to a strong front seven, finalizing a contract with linebacker Akeem Ayers. The club announced the signing Thursday evening.
According to multiple reports, Ayers received a two-year deal with St. Louis.
PFT’s 60th-ranked free agent, the 25-year-old Ayers had stints with Tennessee and New England last season, recording 23 tackles and four sacks in 11 regular season games.
Ayers (6-3, 255) played strong-side linebacker in a 4-3 scheme in Tennessee earlier in his career and could project to the same position in St. Louis. He has has some pass-rush ability, notching a half-dozen sacks three seasons ago. In short, he could be another intriguing chess piece for defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
