An accomplished interior lineman who’s never played for a playoff team is joining the two-time defending NFC champions.
The Seahawks have reached a one-year deal with Browns defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Thursday.
An eight-year pro, the 29-year-old Rubin was a standout on some below-par Cleveland teams in recent years. His best seasons were in 2010 and 2011, when he notched more than 80 tackles per season. Rubin (6-2, 325) recorded 28 stops in 13 games (11 starts) in 2014 for Cleveland.
Rubin will compete for a role in Seattle’s defensive line rotation. If he finds his best form playing fewer snaps as a cog in the NFL’s best defense, he could prove a nice value signing.
