Philip Rivers is in the final year of his contract, and the Chargers are working out Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota before the draft.

Such is the dot-connecting of which trade rumors are born.

However, for his part, Chargers G.M. Tom Telesco wants Rivers in San Diego for 2015 and beyond, telling Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com that dealing the 12th-year quarterback wasn’t something the franchise was actively weighing or contemplating right now.

“It’s not even on our radar,” Telesco said, per ESPN.

The Chargers want to sign Rivers to a new deal, Telesco indicated to ESPN, but the quarterback has previously said he’s inclined to play out his current contract.

And unless Rivers changes his mind and wants to sign an extension, the trade rumors will still bubble up leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft. Such uncertainty fosters speculation no matter what is said.
