Bears host Mario Edwards on pre-draft visit

Rose Bowl - Oregon v Florida State

Harry How

Every year, there are players who see their stock move upward in a hurry during the pre-draft process and it looks like Florida State defensive lineman Mario Edwards will be on that list this year.

Edwards dropped weight after last season and impressed at his workouts since the end of a season that saw him named to the first team defense on the All-ACC team. Edwards has recently been the subject of raves from Mike Mayock of NFL Media and Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports while we have him as the 15th overall pick to the 49ers in our first mock draft of 2015.

That might not be his ceiling on draft day, however. A team picking well ahead of the 49ers took a look at Edwards last week when, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears had him in for a visit. Chicago’s interest in boosting their defense should come as no surprise given their struggles the last two seasons and their move to a 3-4 look under coach John Fox and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Edwards may not wind up going seventh, but it’s looking increasingly likely that he’ll be off the board before the first round comes to an end on April 30.
