Wade Smith spent a lot of years playing for a variety of NFL teams, but his five 2014 games with the Eagles have turned out to be the final games of his career.
Smith announced on his foundation’s Instagram page that he is retiring from the league after 12 seasons.
“After 12 years and 148 games in the NFL, it’s finally time to hang up the cleats,” Smith wrote. “Through hard work and my family, I have been blessed in my career to see 102 starts, nine tackles, three recovered fumbles and one touchdown. Now I am looking forward to creating new starts for our youth, tackling literacy and scoring many more touchdowns through the Wade Smith Foundation.”
Smith started every game for the Texans between 2010 and 2013, which represented his longest stretch as a regular starter in the NFL. He also spent time with the Dolphins, Jets, Chiefs and Seahawks after entering the league as a third-round pick in 2003.
